Safety Commitment
Schindler regards the promotion of sound and effective occupational health and safety practices as a high priority objective for both management and employees of the Company.
Schindler's policy is to ensure that every employee works in an environment where direct efforts are made to prevent accidents, injury and disruption to employees’ health and safety from foreseeable work hazards.
Schindler's objectives are to:
  • Provide and maintain safe working procedures and operations.
  • Provide appropriate personal protective equipment that is necessary when hazards cannot be otherwise reasonably contained or controlled at the source.
  • Provide appropriate training and instruction to enable employees to perform their work safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a constant and continuing interest in the improvement of occupational health and safety performance within Schindler's activities.
Management and Supervisory personnel are required to cooperate in the attainment of these objectives by:
  • Ensuring that all employees are provided with the training, information, supervision and instructions necessary for them to perform their tasks without undue risk to health and safety.
  • Implementing the Schindler OH&S management system elements and participating in OH&S improvement activities.
  • Participating in hazard identification and elimination.
  • Providing protective equipment where necessary and ensuring that it is used correctly.
  • Cooperating with Return to Work programmes for employees recovering from workplace injury and illness.
  • Taking appropriate disciplinary action where breaches of safety are identified.
Employees are required to cooperate in the attainment of these objectives by:
  • Working with care for their own safety and that of other employees and the public who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
  • Wearing and maintaining protective equipment provided in a clean and workable order, whenever it is required.
  • Reporting conditions which appear to be unsafe to their supervisor.
  • Co-operate in the fulfilment of the health and safety obligations placed on Schindler.
  • Assisting in the investigation and the reporting of any accidents or incidents with the objective of introducing measures to prevent re-occurrence.
