Destination Technology
Schindler's PORT Technology can manage all passenger traffic in a building and transport passengers in the most efficient manner possible.
- ECO (Energy Control Option) mode allows intelligent reduction of energy consumption without reducing service
- Fewer elevator trips and improved balancing of the elevators can contribute energy savings.
- Since ECO mode dynamically monitors the traffic situation in the building, a high quality level of service is assured at all times.
AC and permanent magnet motors
Utilising AC and PM gearless motor technology, the efficiency of the elevator hoisting machine is increased, allowing for reduced energy consumption.
Modular machine technology drives energy efficiency
Schindler's modular machines simplify the installation process. They can be disassembled on-site, then reassembled in the machine room. This makes the installation much simpler and more convenient for existing machine rooms.
Escalator technology
High-efficiency motors and drives
High-efficiency motors and variable frequency drives come standard. Schindler escalators also have the option to be installed with energy regenerative drives.
ECO energy-saving package option
Where permissible by code, Schindler’s 9300® Advanced Edition escalator features the ECO energy-saving packages, which may generate energy savings of up to 20 percent by providing soft start/stop functionality and peak current reduction.
Eco-friendly details
Escalator packaging is recyclable and low-mercury high-efficiency compact fluorescent lighting is used. Water-based paints and powder coating are used to limit the emission of volatile organics into the environment.
Suspension traction media
Schindler's exclusive suspension traction media (STM) are more flexible than traditional cables. With a smaller bend radius, they can fit on a smaller sheave, requiring less space. This space-saving design results in a smaller machine in your hoistway or machine room. The STM also offers a smoother, reliable ride. They're a major upgrade over conventional cables.
Power Factor 1 regenerative drives
The Power Factor 1 (PF1) drive reduces energy consumption considerably in comparison to conventional applications and regenerates energy back into a building’s electrical system. It is .99 efficient.
- During light elevator loads on ascent or heavy loads on descent, the system can regenerate energy.
- Recovered energy can be used to power other building demands such as lighting, air conditioning or other equipment.
- PF1 drive will generate less heat, providing additional savings through reduced cooling requirements for the machine room.
Sustainable technology
Urban centres cause around 80% of the world’s pollution, and buildings consume 40% of world energy. Making both greener is essential to maintaining a livable planet. Schindler contributes to making urban centres more sustainable with energy and resource-conserving mobility solutions. Our ultimate goal is zero net energy use, combined with high-quality mobility and material built into products. Schindler shares your goal - greener buildings.
Planning now to save tomorrow
Schindler is known for farsighted energy planning. Prior to installation, our traffic vision planning approach simulates traffic patterns and analyses usage-frequency in your building. It then calculates future energy consumption so you can optimise it long-term.
Green product technology
Schindler system-engineered mobility solutions help you build greener. From Miconic 10 to today’s Schindler PORT destination control, our innovations save energy and costs. Low-friction, regenerative drives, and no hazardous materials keep our product’s environmental impact down.
Sustainable mobility every day
About 80% of a building’s total environmental impact is produced during full operation times. We lower this by regular maintenance. This keeps your mobility solution clean, reliable and energy-efficient. Our maintenance teams use smart route planning to reduce their CO2 footprint. They drive electric vehicles where possible, and use digital Fieldlink equipment to lower paper use.
Turning old into green
Modernising an elevator or escalator increases safety and comfort for passengers, and improves energy efficiency. Schindler instals new LED lighting, for example, PF1 energy-regenerating drives, and controls enabling stand-by modes. Modernising with us can transform your old elevator into an energy-efficient system.
Sustainable mobility solutions, delivered today
At Schindler, we are continuously improving our ecological performance with a holistic approach. Our products are engineered to use as little energy and run as quietly as possible over their life cycle. We make them with as few natural resources as possible and use no hazardous substances. This lowers our CO2 footprint and the noise pollution of our products.
Engineering and materials
Our Environmental Management approach plays a vital role in the product development process. It improves how we use resources, and helps optimise our products for energy-efficiency. And we focus on improving our paper-use and recycling methods. This way, laws and standards are met and sometimes exceeded right from the start.
Production and logistics
Our production facilities meet strict environmental management standards and selected facilities are certified by ISO14001. We’ve decentralised sourcing, production and logistic hubs to reduce the emissions they cause during transport and production. Palette space is optimised at our plants, and our packaging material nearly 100% recyclable. Our Code of Conduct and Vendor Policy strictly forbids child labour. It clearly states that Schindler does not compromise when it comes to safety, quality and the environment.
Modernisation and recycling
Schindler puts high priority on product recycling. This can be a real benefit when modernising an elevator, escalator or moving walk. We reuse mechanical components whenever possible, for instance. We also install new, state-of-the-art technologies. This not only improves service and accessibility, it lowers heat emissions and reduces energy consumption during operation as well.
Installation and operation
When we install a Schindler mobility solution in your building, our fitters are trained to avoid unnecessary energy use and to use waste management onsite. Once installed, Schindler products are among the best for energy-efficiency over their life cycle.
First we analyse, then we advance
Schindler´s approach to the environment mirrors the way we approach our business overall. Schindler systematically analyses its activities and focuses on those areas where we can have maximum effect, such as energy efficiency.
Schindler conducts Life-cycle Assessments (LCA) of its products. The objective is to continuously improve the environmental performance of the product assessed. One example is the environmental performance of the Schindler 3100, which has improved by c. 50%. A holistic approach all the way.
